Now that summer is almost upon us; it’s time to start thinking about fun summer beverage recipes to try out. You’ve probably got a list of your favorite sweet recipes tucked away for after dinner treats, as well as healthy main options, but what about cocktails? When you’re doing your best to be balanced, it’s okay indulge in a cocktail every once and awhile – especially when they’re cute. If you’re looking for a few options to keep in mind for parties, celebrations or summer barbecues, here are a few you can count on to be popular with guests, friends and family.
It’s always fun to try out a new summer punch. You might have a couple of faithful recipes that you tend to stick to, but why not think of adding a bit of a Caribbean twist? Tropical flavors are the embodiment of summer. When you’re picking up your favorite spirits to add into the mix, instead of going for standard lemonade or orange mixers, why not go for pineapple, mango or even a little lime to give the punch a zingy finish. It’s a good way to add Vitamin C to your cocktails, too.
For a super fun cocktail that’s great for a night with the girls, opt for a flirtini. This champagne cocktail is super pretty, and it’s nice and light to drink too. With vodka, champagne, and a little pineapple juice, it’s super easy to make and even tastier to drink. If you want to make it extra special, add in a few chunks of fresh pineapple, muddled raspberries or even a raspberry liqueur like Chambord.
Coffee lovers will go crazy for this one. When you’re putting on a party and want to go big and bold with your flavors, an espresso martini is an ideal “signature drink.” Simply mix up your staple martini, whether you’re a vodka or a gin lover, and add in your favorite coffee and garnish with a coffee bean or two. If you’re really looking to impress, you may want to use the most expensive coffee you can find. That way, you know you’re getting an incredible flavor in the mix.
Sometimes, you really do want to keep it classic. If you are throwing a simple summer party or just fancy a fun drink on a Friday night, stick with a cosmo. These little drinks are so easy to make and can be paired well with a lot of different dishes food wise. Fruity and super light, they’re really easy to drink too – so try not to make them too strong. Simply shake together an ounce and a half of vodka, 1/2 ounce lime juice, 1 oz. cranberry juice and 1/2 ounce Cointreau. To make them look the part, make sure you add a little orange peel or a wheel of lime to the rim of the glawss and you’ll definitely wow your guests.
Of course, one of the most perennially popular cocktails for summer is a frozen margarita. When the weather is super warm, you’ll definitely want a drink that can cool you down. Using crushed iced dressed in your favorite flavors, they can be amazing to accompany Mexican food and will go down well at a neighborhood barbecue too. And they are easy to make, with tequila, lime juice and Cointreau. Chances are you already get more than enough sodium in your diet, so skip the salted rim.
